Air India Crash Probe Focuses on All Potential Factors
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced that the ongoing investigation into the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad this past June is examining all possible contributing factors. The ministry emphasized that the preliminary report released earlier contained factual information available at that specific time and that the investigation is still active.
Details of the Air India Flight AI171 Crash
On June 12th, an Air India Boeing 787-8, flight AI171 bound for London Gatwick, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 260 people, including 241 passengers and crew. Only one passenger survived the crash.
Ongoing Investigation by AAIB
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) released its preliminary report on July 12th. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol addressed concerns raised about the probe, assuring that all probable causes are being thoroughly investigated. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has implemented comprehensive Civil Aviation Regulations (CARs) to ensure aircraft safety.
Compensation and Support for Victims and Families
Air India has provided interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of 237 deceased individuals. Verification is underway for the remaining 11. The process for final compensation has begun, and families are being contacted for necessary information.

Compensation for Injured Passengers
Out of the 75 individuals injured in the crash:
- Full and final compensation has been settled for 43.
- Interim compensation has been released for 24.
- Interim compensation is in verification stages for the remaining 8.
The final compensation process has also begun for those who received interim payments.
Additional Support from Tata Trusts
The Tata Trusts have provided ex gratia payments of Rs 1 crore each to the families of 86 deceased, including 6 crew members.
