PM Modi Calls for Unity and Progress in Parliament
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media at the start of Parliament's Winter Session, urging the opposition to move past election defeats and focus on nation-building. He emphasized the importance of policy over slogans and encouraged a constructive environment for young MPs to contribute.
Focus on Nation-Building, Not Political Bitterness
Modi criticized some opposition parties for disrupting parliamentary proceedings and hindering the progress of new members. He stressed that the House should not be a battleground for past defeats or a display of arrogance after victories.
Key points from his address include:
- An appeal to the opposition to change their "failed strategy."
- An offer to provide tips on effective governance.
- A call to allow young MPs to showcase their talents and contribute to national progress.
โThis place is for neeti (policy) but not naare (slogans),โ Modi stated, urging members to prioritize positive contributions to the country.
Parliament: A Place for Policy, Not Slogans
Modi cautioned against using Parliament as a platform for pre-election posturing or venting frustration from state-level anti-incumbency. He suggested that the opposition introspect on their strategies, which he believes have not resonated with the country for the past decade.
He added, "Don't deprive MPs of their rights, allow them to speak. Don't sacrifice MPs for your hopelessness."
Winter Session Aims to Energize India's Progress
The Prime Minister expressed his belief that the Winter Session will inject new energy into the country's progress. He highlighted the strength of India's democracy and economy, noting the increased voter turnout in recent Bihar elections, particularly among women.
โIndia has proved that democracy can deliver. Our economic strength is rising, and is giving us the conviction and strength to become Viksit Bharat,โ Modi stated.
Gratitude and Optimism
Modi congratulated the new Rajya Sabha Chairperson, C P Radhakrishnan. He also noted the positive impact of GST reforms on creating a favorable environment for future reforms.
He concluded by emphasizing that the session should focus on the country's future and what Parliament intends to achieve for its citizens, urging the opposition to contribute constructively and move beyond past setbacks.
